Last Year's Black Garden

Well, I certainly meant to write more than just one black garden blog!!! But... Here we are, almost a year later, with only one published blog and two drafts I never finished.
But, since a lot of people actually showed interest, and I even got "fan mail" from it, I figured I owe you at least one catch-up blog with some black garden pictures!
Beautiful Basil
This was that "fan mail" I got. A relative sent me black basil seeds and black radish seeds all the way from Switzerland. Not sure how she got away with that, since importing seeds is actually not allowed! Shhhh 🤫Don't tell!
Thank you, Bettina!
I think I've tried every year to grow Basil in-between my tomatoes. I've tried transplants and direct seed, but they've never survived. This year, my dark Basil is growing beautifully!
Lettuce
I often garden until it's dark. One time I looked over at my lettuce and it looked like splashes of black paint! They are actually more purple, than black, but in the twilight, they looked really black!
I designed patterns with the different types of lettuce when I planted the seeds. Because... of course I would! However, quite a few seeds were not on board with my idea and decided not to sprout. Thanks a lot! Now it looks all goofy!
But those that did sprout, are beautiful! 😃
Peas 🫛
Advertisement vs Reality
Perfect example! Ok, the description did say, not all peas might he completely purple. But I was hoping for a bit more than that!
Left: Catalog photo. Right: Mine.
Still, the peas look very nice, I'm yet to find out what they taste like cooked.
I think they look so cute, all tucked in and comfy in their shell! 😄
Corn
The corn stalks are just beautiful! Such deep intense purple 💜!
Cucumbers
I was looking for a dark cucumber. I'm not sure if there is a cucumber that is significantly darker than all others. But this one is one of the darkest I found. China Jade.
So much for now.
It's almost time to start seeds again! Maybe I'll do better blogging this year...
Thanks for reading!
